Asalamualaikum, welcome back to my blog. Today, in conjunction with my Usrah assigned task, I would like to share my favorite verse from the Al-Quran.
So, before we move to the verses, let me introduce to you why did I say this verse is appealing to me.
Every Friday, in my middle school days, we were obliged to read Al-Kahf together. So every time during the recital will always take some time to read the translations of the Surah and I happen to laugh when I reach verse 67 of Surah Al-Kahf. So now what is the real reason for me selecting this verse as my favorite verse? Yes, please continue reading.
Verse 67 of Surah Al-Kahf marks the start of the meeting between Nabi Musa a.s and Nabi Khidir a.s where Nabi Musa was instructed by Allah to seek knowledge with Nabi Khidir. However, Nabi Khidir warns Nabi Musa that he wouldn't be able to be patient with him during the journey. (Al-Kahf:67) But still, Nabi Musa insisted to follow Nabi Khidir and promised to not ask anything of Khidir's actions.
Musa nad Khidir set out for the journey. They traveled on a boat, and after they have arrived, Khidir questionably wrecked the boat they have for a ride. Angrily, Musa questioned Khidir why did he did that, and said what has he done is a grave sin.
After that, Khidir said to Musa: "Didn't I have said earlier, you wouldn't be patient with me!"
Musa replied: "I'm sorry that I have forgotten the promise made earlier."
And with that their adventure continues.
Not long after that, Khidir and Musa met a boy. Out of a sudden Khidir murdered the kid. Musa couldn't be quite of it because Khidir has killed an innocent boy. Out of rage, he said to Khidir: " You have done a deplorable thing." (deplorable=dishounourable)
Khidir once again said to Musa: " Didn't I have said earlier? You won't be able to hold your patience."
Khidir warns Musa if he questions his actions again, he will not allow Musa to follow him.
Musa apologized to Khidir and continue their journey.
After that, they continue their journey. This time they arrived at a town where they asked for food from the people there. However, the people refused to give them any food or hospitality.
Not long after that, they found a wall that is on brink of collapsing. Khidir took initiative to rebuild the wall and without any question, Musa followed Khidir's actions.
These actions marked the end of their journey. Before parting in their own ways, Khidir explains the reason behind all his actions to make sure Musa won't be getting the wrong idea of his actions.
1. The destruction of the boat.
The boat owner lives under the reign of a cruel king. The king would confiscate good boats from them and they will lose their source of income. Hence, Khidir makes a huge hole on the boat as the king would not confiscate ruined boats. So later the boat owner could repair the boat and still have his source of income.
2. The murder of the young boy.
Khidir explains that the parents of the boy were pious people. Hence he killed the kid because when the kid grew up he will be a disbeliever and cause his parent to be thrown into the hellfire.
3. Rebuild the collapsed wall.
Khidir said that underneath the wall there are treasures belonged to two orphans boys in the city where their father has been a righteous person. He rebuilds the wall in order to conceal the treasure from the people's knowledge. And when the time comes, the boys has grown up old enough they can retrieve the treasure.
So, now I would like to recap the lessons that I have gained from these verses.
Firstly, Be patient in seeking Knowledge.
Not gonna lie, we face many challenges as a student on the path of seeking knowledge. We might say that sometimes we want to give up. But, always remember a quote from Imam Syafi'e, who said " If you couldn't bear the tiredness from seeking knowledge, you will not stand the pain of ignorance." Therefore, we should always be patient in order to seek knowledge because we will get satisfaction when we have obtained knowledge.
Secondly, know that every incident and matter that happens has its own wisdom.
From the story of Khidir and Musa, it is clear that sometimes when we assume a matter happens we will always have the first judgment. Therefore as a human,we should think positively of almost everything that happens in our lives because we might not know what Allah has planned better for us.
okay so that's all for today's sharing. Thank you for reading. :)
